How we work

Preparing for the shoot

At your photoshoot we take lots of photos with many different looks and poses. Allow about an hour for this.

Clothing

Please take a change of clothing if you wish. It is important that if there are a number of you in the portrait that you are wearing the same style of clothing and that you are reasonably colour coordinated. The more colour coordinated you are, generally, the better the result. If possible wear long sleeves as they are usually more flattering. Aim for plain classic clothing (and jewelry) rather than ‘busy’ distracting styles that may date quickly. Avoid logos and clothing with stripes. Remember this is a piece of art that will adorn your house for many years.

Feel free to bring some props for children’s portraits. These can be hats, favourite teddy bears, toys and dungarees. Hats, scarves and head-gear emphasize the eyes and make for interesting portraits. You might like to bring something formal and something informal for them to wear so that you will have a good variety of images to choose from.

Our studio has a selection of children’s clothing that may be borrowed.

Hair and Makeup

Long hair on girls and women is usually beautiful so it should be clean and dry and worn down. Makeup should be simple daywear.
